I’m Kevin Watkins — K-WAT — builder of custom snare drums.

I’ve spent most of my life behind a drum kit, and many years behind the console as an audio engineer and producer.

Those experiences give me a unique perspective: not just how a drum feels to play, but how it needs to sound in a mix.

After years of working with drums from both sides, I developed a passion for building a snare I always wanted to hear

One that responds to the player, sounds great to the audio engineer, records beautifully, and earns its place as a true “go-to” drum.

The Beast

Cast Aluminum, The Beast starts with a 6.5” x 14” shell machined to a solid 3mm thickness. Built with integrated 5mm machined reinforcement rings for serious strength, focus, and attack. It’s fitted with 8 streamline lugs, die-cast hoops, 42-strand snare wires, and Remo heads. Power. Cut. Sensitivity. And for players who want the same DNA in a slightly leaner package, there’s also The WannaBeast — the 5.5” x 14” version.

It’s a simple drum, but make no mistake—this thing is an absolute Beast. And yeah… it’s ridiculously fun to play.

The Brawn - Standard

Brass that’s built to do the heavy lifting. At the heart of this drum is a 6.5" x 14" 1.3mm black nickel–plated brass shell with a center bead, delivering a powerful blend of warmth, projection, and controlled bite. Hardware is built for reliability where it matters most. Eight chrome-plated brass tube lugs keep the look clean and classic while allowing the shell to breathe freely. And with die cast hoops, 30-strand snare wires and Remo heads, The Brawn arrives stage or studio-ready with articulation, body, and presence right out of the case.

The Brawn is an absolute workhorse with the tone and attitude to match.

The Brawn - Full Dress

A refined, dressed-to-the-nines version of The Brawn, this 10-lug powerhouse pairs commanding presence with unmistakable elegance. A 6.5” x 14” brass shell formed from 1.3mm black nickel plated brass. Unlike the standard version, this shell is built without a center bead, allowing it to resonate more freely and produce a slightly lower, fuller fundamental pitch with a wide, authoritative voice. The hardware suite elevates both performance and aesthetics. Brass-plated brass tube lugs anchor brass-plated single-flange hoops with classic collar hooks, creating a vintage-inspired silhouette with modern precision. Outfitted with 30-strand snare wires and Remo heads, The Brawn – Full Dress delivers exceptional sensitivity, powerful articulation, and commanding body.

The beauty of this drum lies not only in its visual presence, but in its undeniable strength—its Brawn.

The Bronz'ville

Cast Bronze, this drum is physically heavy—there’s no hiding that. But its sonic authority and musical presence carry just as much weight. At the heart of it is a 7" x 14" cast bronze shell, precision machined to 3mm, with integrated 5mm reinforcement rings. The result is a drum that tips the scale at just over 21 pounds—dense, powerful, and unapologetically substantial. The shell features 45° bearing edges and hand-filed snare beds for optimal response and articulation. Hardware includes 10 chrome-over-brass tube lugs, die-cast hoops, 42-strand snare wires and Remo heads. This instrument demands a longer build and delivery time, but when it arrives, the wait will make perfect sense.

You won’t find it on any map…

…but this might just become your ultimate snare drum destination.

The Tank

Cast Bronze and while visually similar to the Bronz’ville, this snare has its own voice. At its core is a 6.5" x 14", 3mm cast bronze shell with 45° bearing edges and no re-rings, allowing the shell to resonate freely for maximum power and depth. Hardware is built for performance and reliability, featuring 8 chrome-over-brass tube lugs, die-cast hoops, wide hand-filed snare beds, 42-strand snare wires, and Remo heads complete the build for exceptional sensitivity and response. Weighing in at 16 lbs, this drum delivers huge projection, fast response, and explosive attack while remaining articulate across a wide tuning range.

Bottom line: this snare doesn’t just cut through the mix — it blows straight through it.

The Fifteen

Cast Brass with a nod to the spirit of 1920s snare drums—reimagined with modern power and precision. While the 4" x 15" format and brass construction tip the hat to vintage designs, everything else pushes this drum firmly into modern territory. At the core is a 3mm cast brass shell, delivering exceptional projection, warmth, and clarity. The shell features 45° bearing edges for enhanced sensitivity and articulation, paired with wide, hand-filed snare beds. Hardware features 8 classic tube lugs, 3mm triple-flange hoops, 25-strand snare wires and topped with Remo heads. The result is a drum that blends vintage character with modern sonic versatility. Compact in depth but massive in personality, this drum offers a tight, articulate attack, rich brass body, and surprising low-end presence thanks to the unique 15" diameter.

It’s not a piccolo. It’s a Fifteen.

The Kentucky Blue Brass

Cast Brass and like the name suggests, the Kentucky Blue Brass features a naturally developed patina process that leaves the shell dressed in a striking turquoise-blue finish. Built in the heavyweight class, it starts with the same 6.5" x 14", 3mm cast brass shell found in the King Brass—delivering immense body, projection, and authority. Outfitted with 8 brass-plated tube lugs, brass-plated die-cast hoops, 42-strand snare wires and Remo heads complete the build for maximum sensitivity and response. The rough-textured exterior patina contrasts beautifully with the brilliant plated hardware, giving the drum a look that’s as bold as its voice. Like all great brass snares, the KBB is warm, punchy, and incredibly dynamic.

The Killer Bee'd

The newest predator in the K-WAT lineup has landed, and it doesn’t just play — it dominates. Meet the Killer Bee’d — a 7 x 14” beaded brass shell drum, crafted just over 1mm thick for a killer mix of weight and snap. True to K-WAT form, it rocks 8 chrome-over-brass tube lugs and die-cast hoops, giving it authority that commands attention in any room. Visually, it’s a showstopper: a patina’d center bead that jumps off the polished brass like no other drum out there. Sonically, it’s everything you want from brass — warm, focused, punchy . . .

— but make no mistake: this drum stings.

It bites. It KILLS.

The Phoenix

A limited release, The Phoenix started from the idea of building a drum that looked like it had been damaged by fire, but then ultimately restored. This 6.5 x 14” heavy drum begins with a 5/3/5mm cast brass shell; 3mm at the body of the shell and 5mm re-rings. 45 degree bearing edges and hand filed snare beds. Add 8 brass tube lugs, brass double flange hoops, 42 strand snare wires and Remo heads. Everything about this drum is intentionally visually distressed, but its sound and playing characteristics are anything but. The heavy shell is warm and punchy, with tons of attack. The sonic subtleties of the double flange brass hoops render a nice rim and click sound and make it really nice to lay into. Wide open this drum is aggressive and yet, incredibly sensitive. It handles every tuning and does not disappoint.

The Aluminare Lite

Seamless Aluminum with a bold re-imagining of an earlier model, this 6.5 x 14” aluminum shell snare delivers a voice all its own. The 1mm shell is formed without a center bead, lowering the drum’s fundamental pitch and producing a darker, fuller tone with exceptional body. A narrow snare bed paired with a 25-strand snare wire set provides an ultra-responsive feel with quick articulation and clarity. Hardware is equally refined: eight chrome-over-brass tube lugs, 3mm triple-flange hoops, and Remo heads come standard, ensuring rock-solid tuning stability and reliable performance. And thanks to the refined shell mass and flat-wall design, this drum absolutely comes alive when cranked up—delivering explosive projection and authority—yet it remains equally comfortable tuned down, offering warm, controlled tones with remarkable sensitivity.

The Night Beast

An aesthetic evolution of K-WAT’s best-selling Beast snare, The Night Beast pairs a polished cast aluminum shell with striking all-black hardware for a bold, modern presence. Under the hood, it’s the same Beast drummers rely on—powerful attack, focused crack, and the versatility to handle anything from studio sessions to live stages. 6.5” x 14”, 8 lugs, die cast hoops, 42-strand snare wires and Remo heads.

The Tin Man

Starting with a 5” x 14” seamless aluminum shell, this drum builds on one of the most trusted foundations in modern snare design. I’ve taken that industry staple and refined it by using 10 chrome-over-brass tube lugs and utilizing die-cast hoops for added focus, durability, and tuning stability. Along with 25-strand snare wires and Remo heads the result is a drum that delivers exceptional sensitivity, while maintaining a bold, full-bodied voice.

At home on stage or in the studio - a “girthy” take on a decades old classic.

The King Brass

Cast Brass; The King Brass has always been a limited edition, special-order instrument—built one at a time and never duplicated.

No two are exactly alike, which makes every drum a truly personal piece.

At its core is a powerful 6.5 x 14”, 3mm cast brass shell—thick, resonant, and built to deliver the kind of authority only solid brass can produce. Precision 45° bearing edges and hand-filed snare beds ensure sensitivity and articulation, whether you're playing ghost notes or laying into a backbeat. This particular King Brass is dressed with 8 aged brass tube lugs, brass single-flange hoops and clips, an aged Dunnett throw-off and butt, 42-strand snare wires, and Remo heads—a hardware package chosen not only for performance but for timeless visual character. Then comes the finish. K-WAT’s proprietary two-step turquoise patina gives the brass an aged, almost ancient presence—like something discovered rather than manufactured. It’s bold, organic, and impossible to replicate exactly.

But the heart of this drum is the engraving and its story. Master engraver John Aldridge has created a one-of-a-kind Crown of Thorns engraving that wraps the shell with striking detail and depth. Every line is cut by hand, turning the drum into a piece of functional art. The Crown of Thorns is not just decoration—it tells a story. It represents the suffering, humility, and ultimate sacrifice made on the cross. In that way, this drum becomes more than an instrument; it becomes a symbol. The crown that mocked a King ultimately reminds us of the sacrifice that redeemed the world. This drum sounds incredible - It looks even better. And unlike most instruments, it carries a message far deeper than music alone.

The Thirteen

I’ve always had a thing for a 13" snare drum. It has a voice all its own—quick, lively, and incredibly musical.

Over the years I’ve built a few 13" wood drums, but a metal 13"? That never really crossed my mind… until now.

At the heart of the drum is a 3mm cast shell, available in brass or copper, measuring 13" x 5.5". These shells deliver serious

presence and power, yet maintain the sensitivity and articulation that make a 13" snare so special. They tune up beautifully for a crisp, cutting response and drop down into deep, fat territory without losing character. In short—this is a true go-to snare drum

that works across just about any musical setting.

Each metal brings its own personality to the table: Copper offers a slightly brighter voice with rich, complex overtones and a lively response. Brass leans warmer and punchier, with a focused crack and strong body. Both are unmistakably musical. Every drum is outfitted with 8 chrome-over-brass tube lugs, Die-cast hoops, Hand-filed snare beds, 25-strand snare wires and Remo heads.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it … There’s something special about a 13".

Our special-order wood snares—ply or stave—are built for tone, range, and versatility. Ply shells with no reinforcement rings drop the fundamental pitch and open up a wider tuning range, making them a true go-to snare. Stave shells feature hand-finished 45° edges with a subtle roundover, available in multiple wood species and finishes.

Lone Wolf

Single-ply, steam-bent shells, 9/32” thick, supported with maple re-rings. Each drum is a solitary spirit, carrying a voice all its own, untamed, self-sufficient, unbound. It does not seek validation. It does not lean on others. Like a lone wolf, it thrives in its solitude, fierce and complete, capable of filling a room with presence and depth without any accompaniment. True to all Lone Wolf shells, it measures 9/32” thick and comes standard with maple re-rings. The 5.5” depth paired with die-cast hoops delivers a crisp, higher tuning with rim clicks that really cut through, yet—like every K-WAT snare—you can drop it into ballad range without losing a beat.
